The eight classes
What each role does for the team, and how to pick one for the fight in front of you.
Eight roles, four armies
France, Britain, Germany and, since the free August 20 update, the United States all field the same eight classes. The weapons and uniforms change by army, but the job each class does for the team stays the same. The U.S. update gave every class an American version with at least three uniforms each.
| Class | Job | Pick it when |
|---|---|---|
| Officer | Mobile spawn point for the team, plus smoke, gas and call-in strikes. | Your team keeps respawning far from the objective. |
| Rifleman | Holds long lanes with a bolt-action rifle and picks off key enemies. | You want to be useful anywhere, or you're learning a map. |
| Stormtrooper | Clears trenches and buildings with shotguns, SMGs, grenades and melee. | The fight is close and your team has smoke or artillery to move behind. |
| Sniper | Removes officers, machine gunners and specialists from range. | One enemy machine gun or officer is holding your whole team up. |
| Specialist | Anti-tank weapons and flamethrowers for armor and dug-in positions. | Tanks are rolling, or a bunker won't fall. |
| Engineer | Digs trenches, builds cover and forward spawns, repairs. | Your side needs somewhere safe to spawn and move. |
| Heavy Gunner | Sustained machine-gun fire to lock down an approach. | You need to stop a push, or cover a crossing. |
| Armoured Cavalry | Heavy body armor to soak the first burst and open a breach. | A stalemate needs breaking and infantry is ready to follow. |
The class panel on the home page has the full breakdown for each role: core jobs, habits to avoid and suggested perks.
How the classes have changed
- April 24 (Anzac patch): a dedicated LMG class was added so automatic weapons are balanced in one place. Stormtroopers moved toward explosives, and Specialists kept their unique weapons. LMGs now slow you while aiming and firing, so they work less well on the run.
- April 24: Engineers got new buildables, including concrete trench walls, and a clearer build menu.
- June 8: a new bullet system and faster fire response online. You can also throw grenades while reloading.
- August 20: the U.S. Expeditionary Forces arrived with an American version of every class, eight new U.S. weapons and a full first-person mode.

What a working team looks like
Our advice, not an official rule: at least one Officer alive and close to the objective, one or two Engineers keeping spawns and trenches up, a Heavy Gunner covering the approach, and a Specialist ready for tanks. The rest can be Riflemen and Stormtroopers pushing the objective. If your team has none of the support roles, switching to one helps more than another kill-focused class.
Uniforms and cosmetic packs
New uniforms have come with most big patches (ANZAC uniforms for Britain, German regimental uniforms, U.S. uniforms for every class). Three paid packs add more, and none of them change gameplay:
- Harlem Hellfighters (August 20): uniforms and gear for the 369th Infantry Regiment.
- Elite Armored (June 25): cuirassier uniforms and helmets for the armored class.
- Supporter Pack (launch): for players who want to support the four-person studio.
A sailor and marine uniform pack, one per army, is planned with the Iron Tides update.
