Maps and modes
Where you fight, how the modes work, and how to play offline or build your own maps.
Modes
Multiplayer battles
Large team fights over capture points on official and community servers. On Linear maps the objectives go in order, and since June a stage can have two or more points at once, for example A, then B and C together, then D.
Campaign
A multiplayer campaign across a map of territories. Players vote on which territory to attack, the defenders dig in, and the winner rests for a turn. Territory icons show what each army is doing.
Persistent Battles (offline)
Added July 24: the campaign played fully offline against bots, with saves you can come back to. You can set up new campaigns and edit MPCampaigns.json to use your own map list.
Singleplayer with bots
Any map against bots, with a bot difficulty setting. Bots got a big behavior pass on September 4: better pathing, smarter spawns, and they build forward spawns when no human Engineer does.

Older maps have been reworked too: Somme gained an extra capture point, and Picardie Trenches became a Linear map (both June 8). Since August 28, official servers also rotate versions of existing maps with different armies.
Coming next: coastal maps
The Iron Tides update, announced September 26, brings two coastal maps, a motorboat, several new cannons and the ability to climb ladders. There's no release date yet.
Map editor and Workshop
The game ships with a full map editor, and community maps are shared through the Steam Workshop ↗. Several of the official maps above started as community maps. Maps are also playable in different seasons and times of day.
