OTTOVER THE TOP: WWICGN FIELD GUIDE STEAM ↗

Vehicles

Tanks, planes and behemoths

What rolls and flies on the Western Front, and how to crew it without getting everyone killed.

What's on the battlefield

The armies field armored cars, tanks and aircraft, plus experimental tanks that are more fun than historical. The biggest vehicles are behemoths, huge tanks that need a big crew. The store page asks, fairly, whether you've ever driven a tank with ten other players inside.

The American vehicles

The free U.S. update on August 20 added an armored car, a light tank, a heavy tank and a behemoth:

Mark VIII Liberty

The U.S. behemoth, crewed by you and nine others. It was added as the American behemoth on August 28.

White Armored Car M1917

The American armored car.

G-9 Caterpillar and Ford 3-Ton

Both shown in Flying Squirrel's American vehicle preview.

Nieuport 17

A biplane that came back with the U.S. update.

Other additions since launch

  • Medium Mark A Whippet (April 24): a fast British tank for breaking through and hitting positions from behind.
  • Vehicle handling (June 25): much better physics and steering, and tanks climb out of holes more easily.
  • Iron Tides (announced September 26): a motorboat and several new cannons for the coastal maps.

Crewing tips

Our advice, based on how the classes work:

  • A tank with its gun seats empty is a slow target. Fill the guns before you push, and drive toward objectives with infantry behind you.
  • Specialists with anti-tank weapons are the main threat. Keep infantry around the tank to deal with them.
  • Riflemen carrying a wrench can repair friendly tanks. Stay close and keep it running.
  • The Mechanic perk adds 15% vehicle speed and cuts heavy-weapon overheating by 15%.
  • On the enemy side: attack armor from the sides and rear, and from cover. A Specialist in the open doesn't last long.
