Using CRB

Why this spell?

How to read why CRB recommended a spell, and why it skipped another.

CRB has a priority list for each class and talent tree. It walks the list from the top and recommends the first spell you have learned that the game says you can use right now. Anything above it that cannot be used is passed over.

Three examples

Why Fire Blast and not Pyroblast? (Fire Mage)

Pyroblast is first in the Fire single-target list. CRB treats it as a damage-over-time spell, so once it is on your target it is not repeated there. With it passed over, CRB moves down to Fire Blast, and then Fireball if Fire Blast is not ready.

Why was Overpower passed over? (Warrior)

Overpower follows its stance and is only offered when the game says it can be used. When it cannot, CRB passes it over and continues down the list instead of asking for something you cannot press.

Why was a buff skipped? (any class)

Buffs and auras are only suggested when they are missing. If the one you want is already active, there is nothing to suggest, so CRB continues down the list instead of asking you to recast it.

These show how to read the card. They are not live data. The site does not know what is happening in your game.

Why a spell is passed over

  • It is on cooldown.
  • You are in the wrong form or stance for it.
  • The target cannot be affected (for example, the Paladin spell Exorcism needs an Undead or Demon target).
  • The game says it is not usable at that moment.

The Next row only lists spells you can use right now. A spell that is only waiting on its cooldown is left out unless you turn on Show spells waiting on a cooldown in the Next row under Rotation, which shows it dimmed. If nothing at all can be used, the card says COMING UP for the first spell.

See it in the game

  • Learning mode: hover the main icon to see which spells were passed over and why.
  • /crb cooldown: cast a spell that has a cooldown, then type it. It lists what CRB recommends, what it passed over, the Next row, and each spell as ready or cooling with where the answer came from.
  • /crb cooldown watch: prints a line whenever a spell starts or stops cooling or the recommendation changes. Type it again to stop.

Hidden numbers

In some situations Forever hides numbers from addons, such as how long a cooldown or a damage-over-time effect has left. CRB never guesses with a hidden number and never errors on one. It uses the game's own yes or no answers, shows the game's cooldown swirl on an icon whose time is hidden, and estimates a hidden timer from your own casts, shown with ~.
