C.A.M.P. & pets

How building works since the 2025 C.A.M.P. Revamp, what a working camp needs, and how pets, allies and vendors fit in.

Build rules since September 2025

The C.A.M.P. Revamp brought over the relaxed rules from Fallout Worlds. Items still snap the old way if you want them to, but they no longer have to:

  • Walls can go below the floor, and upper floors can attach to walls without a staircase.
  • You can over-snap walls to get wallpaper on both sides.
  • Items that used to need a foundation don't, and removing a piece no longer strands part of a build.
  • Most items can be placed freely, even in mid-air.
  • Power cables can cross other objects.
  • Blueprints can hold intersecting, floating or unsupported pieces.

Still need the ground: crops, resource extractors, and anything that needs water.

The Workshop menu

Workshop 2.0 groups thousands of items into main categories with subcategories: C.A.M.P. Pieces, Defense, Power, Lights, Resources, Utility, Furniture, Decorations, Wall Décor, Storage, Structure and Dwellers (allies, pets and pet furniture), plus Recent and History (new, blueprinted, stored). A Quests tab appears when an active quest needs you to build something.

Filter by Buildable, Unlockable or Known. On keyboard, Shift + WASD moves through menus faster; on controller, the bumpers switch categories.

Modify menu

  • Edit: move, store or scrap placed items.
  • Wallpapers: add or remove.
  • Locks: doors, generators and resource collectors, so other players can't take from them.
  • Blueprints: save a build and place it again, even after moving camp.
  • Replace: swap a placed item for another without scrapping and rebuilding.

What a working camp needs

ItemWhyTip
Stash boxYour shared storage across the worldArmor weighs less in the stash since March 2026, so it's the place for spare sets

WaterClean water for humans and for cookingWater purifiers must sit in water; the teal sink makes water but can't go in a Shelter
Crops & extractorsFood and a trickle of materialsBoth need the ground; extractors need a resource deposit

Every camp has a build budget shown in the Workshop. Shelters are separate instanced interiors you build inside, with their own space; C.A.M.P. Pets can't go in Shelters.

Pets and allies

C.A.M.P. Pets (since December 2024) live at your camp. Place a cat bed or doghouse from the Dwellers tab to spawn one. They wander, use their own furniture, and now and then bring you an item (Pet Treasure). Interact to give commands and pet them, dress them in collars made at the Armor Workbench, and rename them; only you see the name.

  • You can have one pet and one ally at your camp at the same time.
  • Species so far: dog, cat, radhog (Burning Springs, December 2025) and deathclaw (a paid store bundle, June 2026).
  • C.A.M.P. Pets don't follow you into the world, and they don't go into Shelters.

Vendors and visitors

Vending machines let other players buy from you while you're away. The vendor history log shows who bought what. Other players can visit, submit and rate camps through the Best Builds feature, added in September 2024.

Bethesda runs C.A.M.P. contests from time to time. The Slasher C.A.M.P. Contest runs October 2–26, 2026. Calendar.

Weather stations

A Weather Control Station changes the weather at your camp, and that weather counts for fishing: rain for regional fish and axolotls, radstorms for glowing fish. Season 26 has a Blood Moon version.
