Gear & legendaries
How legendary items, mods and uniques work after The Slasher update, what they cost, where 4-star mods come from, and how weapons, armor and Power Armor fit together now.
Legendary crafting
Since Sep 2024; 4-star since Dec 2024
Legendary weapons and armor carry one mod per star, up to four. Legendary crafting lets you choose those mods instead of rolling for them:
- Get the mod. Scrap a legendary item that has it; you may get the mod as a loose item, or learn to craft it permanently. You can also trade for loose mods.
- Craft it (if learned) at a Tinker's Workbench, with Legendary Modules and other materials.
- Attach it to a legendary item at the Weapons or Armor workbench, for scrip.
3-star items can be taken to 4 stars with a 4-star mod. When you replace a mod, the confirmation now shows what you're removing and warns you if you don't know that mod.
Scrip values and crafting costs
The Slasher, Sep 15, 2026
| Stars | Sell for scrip | Scrap for scrip | Purveyor price | Change a mod | Change a mod on a unique |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 ★ | 15 (5) | 3 (1) | 25 | 50 | 500 |
| 2 ★ | 25 (15) | 5 (2) | 35 | 50 | 500 |

| 4 ★ | 150 (50) | 30 (6) | – | 100 | 1,000 |
- The cost of changing a mod is now fixed; it used to rise each time you swapped.
- Unique items cost 10 times the normal scrip to change a mod.
- Legendary Modules weigh 0.05 each in your stash (was 0.15).
- Activities pay 3–5 scrip; Public Events pay 3–5 Legendary Modules (March 2026 reward pools).
Unique items and the 4th mod
New with The Slasher
Named "unique" weapons and armor come with a fixed special effect, and their inspect screen shows a unique tag. Since September 15 you can change their legendary mods and add a fourth, which brought back a lot of older uniques. There's an option to ask before scrapping a unique on the test server.
| Crafting a unique | 3 ★ | 4 ★ |
|---|---|---|
| Vault Steel | 40 | 80 |
| Legendary Modules | 30 | 65 |
You can always craft the paint an item spawned with, even without its plan, so you can return a unique to its original look.

4-star mods
- Gleaming Depths raid
- The main source of 4-star items and mods. Bethesda's examples: criticals restore 5% HP and AP for you and nearby teammates (weapon); V.A.T.S. AP cost down up to 25% (Power Armor); melee damage up to +25% (armor). Charged (melee, added Jan 2026) builds a charge you release with a power attack.
- Infestation bosses
- A guaranteed 4-star weapon or armor piece, plus Infestation-only mods: Vector (armor: up to +50% long-range V.A.T.S. accuracy) and Tarnished (weapon: more damage at lower condition, up to +120%).
- Bigfoot
- A chance at a 4-star item with the exclusive Thrillseeker mod.
Where to find each: Endgame guide.
Bounty-only mods (Head Hunts)
Head Hunt targets can drop items with these mods, which don't come from anywhere else:
| Stars | Mods |
|---|---|
| 1 ★ | Feral (melee), Sniper's (+120% weak-spot damage while aiming), Adrenal (weapon and armor), Lucid (weapon and armor, scales with the Ghoul Feral meter) |
| 2 ★ | Pick Pocketer's (melee kills may give caps), Pain Killer (HP regen on a kill streak), Rushing (AP regen on a kill streak), Elementalist's (+5 to +25 all resistances), Fierce (limb resistance) |
| 3 ★ | Glowing (kills give rads), Healthy (up to +100 max HP), Reflex (up to +10% evade), Active (up to +100 max AP), Barbarian (+1 STR per kill on a streak) |
Weapons
Since the 2025 perk rework, pick weapons by the damage style your cards reward, not by the old weapon class. Pistol damage from the old pistol perks was built into pistols' base damage, and several pistols (pipe, laser, plasma) can be modded into rifles.
| Weapon family | Styles that fit |
|---|---|
| Automatic rifles | Torso & AP, close range, weak spots |
| Scoped rifles | Far & scoped, weak spots, stealth |
| Shotguns | Crippled & spread, close range |
| Pistols | Weak spots (Gunslinger), close range (Guerrilla) |
| Heavy guns | Sustained fire (Bullet Storm), best in Power Armor |
| Melee and fists | Crippled, bleeding, power attacks |
| Bows and throwing | Bows & thrown (bounce, pierce, impairments), stealth |
| Energy, fire, cryo | Science!, Pyro-Technical or Cryologist on top of any style above |
Armor after the March 2026 rework
The Backwoods update
- Armor rating counts first, then special reductions (like "−15% damage from robots"), which now multiply together instead of adding.
- All armor is lighter, in your inventory and in your stash.
- More armor pieces offer elemental resistances; Braced mods now give +5% blocked damage reduction.
- Lighter Build now gives +5 AP per limb and +10 on the torso; Ultra-Light Build +10 and +20 (Sep 2026).
- The Pocketed and Deep Pocketed torso mods carry twice what a limb does.
Under-armor styles
Every under-armor now has one style slot that sets its SPECIAL bonus; linings give resistances instead.
| Style | Bonus | Unlocked from |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | +2 CHA, +2 END, +2 AGI | Default |
| Vault | +2 END, +5 INT, +3 LCK | Gold Bullion vendor (Foundation) |
| Raider | +2 PER, +3 AGI, +5 LCK | Raider events (Moonshine Jamboree) |
| Secret Service | +3 STR, +3 PER, +4 END | Gold Bullion vendors (Vault 79) |
| Marine | +4 STR, +3 END, +3 AGI | Atlantic City quest The Most Sensational Game; Mutated Party Packs |

| Brotherhood of Steel | +4 STR, +3 END, +3 INT | Brotherhood events (Test Your Metal, Line in the Sand) |

Power Armor
- All Power Armor and the chassis weigh much less since March 2026. A chassis's weight now comes from what's on it, and it still counts as carried when deployed.
- In a nuke zone, Power Armor only fully protects you as a complete set with Rad-X; partial suits take extra radiation damage.
- Stabilized's big-gun accuracy is doubled in Power Armor; Power Armor Reboot can auto-revive you with a Stimpak.
- The raid adds 4-star Power Armor mods. The Slasher questline rewards a unique Power Armor set.
Which set? Choose Power Armor by its set bonuses and the mods you can craft for it, and check each set's level requirement in the Pip-Boy. Heavy-gun builds and most raid builds wear Power Armor; stealth, evasion and many melee builds don't.
