FAQ
Common questions, short answers
Answers to the questions people ask most, each based on a Rockstar page or a platform store listing. Where Rockstar has not said, the answer says so.

Release and platforms
When does Grand Theft Auto VI come out?
Thursday, November 19, 2026. Rockstar moved the date twice before settling on it: from its first 2025 window to May 26, 2026 (announced May 2, 2025), then to November 19, 2026 (announced November 6, 2025).
What time does it unlock?
Rockstar's pages give only the date. The PlayStation Store's US listing shows 9:00 PM PST on November 18, which is midnight Eastern on November 19. Treat that as a store listing, not a Rockstar statement.
Which platforms is it on?
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar's site carries the note that it plays best on PlayStation 5. A PC version has not been announced.
Does it support PS5 Pro and Xbox features?
The PlayStation Store lists it as PS5 Pro Enhanced with DualSense vibration and trigger effects. The Xbox Store lists it as Optimized for Xbox Series X|S with achievements, presence and cloud saves. Neither listing gives resolution or frame-rate details.
Is there a disc?
No. The physical version is a box with a download code, and no disc is included. Code-in-box copies are available from November 12, 2026 so they can be used for pre-load.
When can I pre-load?
Digital pre-orders can start pre-loading at local midnight on November 12, 2026. The PlayStation Store calls this a 7-day pre-load. Codes redeemed before launch also begin pre-loading on that date.
Does it need an internet connection?
The PlayStation Store listing shows offline play enabled. Rockstar's store legal text adds that some features may need an internet connection or a Rockstar Games account. Nothing more specific has been published.
Buying
What do I get for pre-ordering?
Purchases made before November 20, 2026 include the Vintage Vice City Pack: a '55 Vapid Stanier sedan with a garage, retro outfits and hairstyles, and a weapon pattern. Digital purchases also include one month of GTA+. The store listings put the cutoff at 23:59:59 on November 19, 2026.
What is the difference between the Standard and Ultimate Editions?
The Standard Edition is the game. The Ultimate Edition adds 16 items that Rockstar says are threaded through Jason and Lucia's story: vehicles, weapons, outfits, two activities and five shops. Standard owners can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade later.
How much does it cost?
On the US PlayStation and Xbox store pages on September 30, 2026: Standard Edition $79.99 and Ultimate Edition $99.99. The Xbox page lists the Ultimate Edition Upgrade at $20.00. Prices vary by store and country, so check the store you will buy from.
Can I upgrade to the Ultimate Edition later?
Yes. The Ultimate Edition Upgrade is sold as a digital add-on on the PlayStation and Microsoft stores once your Standard code has been redeemed. There is no physical Ultimate Edition.
Does the Vice City Collection include the game?
No. The Goodtime State: Vice City Collection is a separate collector's box that Rockstar says is sold separately from the game. The US Rockstar Store listed it at $399.99 on September 30, 2026.
Can I cancel or refund a pre-order?
That depends on where you bought it. Physical pre-orders from the Rockstar Store can be canceled through Xsolla's help steps. Digital pre-orders go through the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store, and other retailers handle their own orders.
Do the codes work in any country?
PlayStation codes only work on accounts from the matching region, and PlayStation codes bought in Japan expire 170 days after November 19, 2026. Xbox codes are not region-locked. Buy from a store in the country of your platform account.
When does the free GTA+ month have to be redeemed?
On PlayStation Store purchases by March 31, 2027. On Microsoft Store purchases within 180 days of buying. It is limited to one per platform account and renews monthly at the regular price until canceled.
What are the in-game purchases?
Both store listings say the game has optional in-game purchases. Rockstar has not said what they are.
The game
Is it single player?
Rockstar's June 24, 2026 post calls it a single player experience, and both store listings repeat it. No online mode has been described.
Who do you play?
Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
Where is it set?
The state of Leonida, centered on a modern-day Vice City. Rockstar names six regions: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga.
Is there an official map?
Not online. Rockstar's site describes the six regions without a map, but the collector's box poster has an illustrated map of Leonida on its back. Rockstar has not said how that map relates to the in-game map or how big the world is.
Is it rated?
The Xbox Store lists the rating as pending and likely mature 17+. Rockstar's pages carry the ESRB notice that the game may contain content inappropriate for children.
Which languages are supported?
The Rockstar Store and the Xbox Store list 13: English, French, Italian, German, Russian, Japanese, Polish, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Spanish (Mexico), Spanish (Spain) and Portuguese (Brazil).
What is GTA VI: The Album?
The official soundtrack album, made with Atlantic Records, with 34 original tracks. It comes out on November 19, 2026 and six singles are already out. Vinyl and CD editions are up for pre-order.
This site
Are the pictures on this site from the game?
No. The page artwork is original CGN fan art inspired by the setting. It is not Rockstar artwork and does not show confirmed scenes. Rockstar's real screenshots, trailers and cover art are on its own media pages.
How current is this site?
Every page shows a checked date, and the last full check was September 30, 2026. Rockstar's Newswire is the source of truth if it has posted something newer.
Answers reflect Rockstar's pages and the US store listings as of September 30, 2026. See Sources and method for links. The header illustration is fan artwork, and the map in it is invented, not the game's map.
