What changed from Classic
Fear Ward and Devouring Plague are available to every Priest at level 20, Divine Spirit is baseline at 30 and Shadow Word: Death joins at 32. Racial spells were redone, Gnomes get two new ones, and there are new talents such as Penance, Binding Heal and Prayer of Mending.
Baseline changes
- Fear Ward and Devouring Plague at level 20 for every Priest, regardless of race. Divine Spirit is baseline at level 30. Shadow Word: Death arrives at 32 as an instant Shadow attack that costs you 10% of your health if it does not kill.
- Fade's threat reduction doubled. Prayer of Healing now heals the target's whole party and their pets, not your own party. Renew from several Priests can sit on one target.
- Racials: Gnome gets Confounding Flash (level 10, confuses up to 5 enemies) and Contingency Plan (level 20, a ward that absorbs and heals when the target drops below 35%). Dwarf gets Chastise (20). Human gets Divine Grace (10). Night Elf's Starshards and Elune's Grace were retuned. Undead gets Dark Sacrifice (20).
By talent tree
Discipline
- Penance (new, 21 points): a 2-second channel on a 12-second cooldown that damages an enemy or heals an ally each second. Soul Warding (new, 16 points) cuts the cooldown and Mana cost of Power Word: Shield.
- Divine Aegis: critical heals leave a 12-second absorb. Holy Precision removes the need for hit gear on healers. Silent Resolve also shortens stun, fear and silence on you.
- Power in Light and Twin Disciplines (both new, row 1) boost damage dealt to targets with your Holy Fire and instant-cast spells.
Holy
- Binding Heal (new, 16 points): a heal for you and your target with no cooldown. Prayer of Mending (new, 31 points) bounces a heal up to 5 times.
- Litany of Light refunds Mana when your next heal is a different spell. Inspiration triggers from all non-periodic critical heals. Twilight Focus (formerly Healing Focus) protects every cast from pushback.
- Improved Prayer of Healing and Lightwell were removed.
Shadow
- Shadowform now allows all non-healing spells, halves the Mana cost of Shadow spells and doubles their crit damage bonus. Shadow Weaving only helps the Priest who casts it.
- Vampiric Embrace is a 16-point talent lasting 30 seconds on a 1-minute cooldown. Devouring Contagion (new) lets Devouring Plague jump to a nearby enemy when its target dies. Early Demise (new) boosts Shadow Word: Death on low-health targets.
- Shadow Focus moved to row 1 and now adds hit instead of reducing resists.
Blizzard Confirmed Blizzard, Sep 30, 2026 ↗ (summarized in CGN's words; the Blizzard article has the full list)
Blizzard says class abilities and talents may keep changing during the beta. Where a later beta build changed something, the beta section below has it.
How talents work: Talents start at level 10 and keep Classic's rows. One-point milestone talents sit at 11, 21 and 31 points spent, and a new 16-point milestone was added. Some talents are unchanged from patch 1.12, some are changed, and some class buffs that used to be talents (Blessing of Kings, Improved Mark of the Wild, Divine Spirit) are now baseline. To respec, including Legacy talents, visit a class trainer in a major city. Dual Specialization arrives at level 40.
Talent trees and milestone talents
Each tree has one-point milestone talents. This table is built from the same beta talent data as the planner (October 1 build, with Blizzard's October 8 talent changes). A level 30 character has 21 talent points (one per level from 10 to 30), so the 31-point talents are out of reach at the beta cap. The Legacy perk Talented can unlock talent points up to five levels earlier.
| Tree | 11 points | 16 points (new) | 21 points | 31 points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Discipline | Inner Focus | Soul Warding | Penance | Power InfusionOut of reach at level 30 |
| Holy | Holy Nova | Binding Heal | Spirit of Redemption | Prayer of MendingOut of reach at level 30 |

Tier placement at level 30
These are Wowhead's October 6 level-30 beta placements, verified on October 7 and shown on CGN's tier lists. Wowhead groups several DPS classes at this level bracket, and CGN expands those class placements across the applicable DPS trees. Level-30 Beta Rankings: not level-60 launch or raid rankings.

Level-30 builds
CGN publishes one 21-point level-30 build per role-spec, each decoded from Icy Veins' level-30 guides and validated against the planner data.
| Spec | Role | Summary | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discipline Priest | Healer | Power Word: Shield and mana: Improved Power Word: Shield, Soul Warding, Meditation and Inner Focus. | See the build → |
| Holy Priest | Healer | Divine Fury for faster heals, Improved Renew and Holy Nova; Spirit Tap and a wand for leveling. | See the build → |
| Shadow Priest | DPS | Deep Shadow for Mind Flay and Vampiric Embrace, or a Discipline dip for Meditation if mana is the problem. | See the build → |
A build here is not "best in slot": CGN has not validated a full item pool at the beta cap.
Beta changes so far
October 8 build (Oct 8, 2026)
- Smite ranks 1 to 4, Lesser Heal ranks 1 to 3 and Heal ranks 1 and 2 were retuned so each new rank is an upgrade and the ranks grow more evenly.
- Discipline: Penance does less damage and healing, fixing a bug that treated it as a 3-second channel instead of 2 seconds. Blizzard's note: Blizzard wants Penance in line with other powerful spells that have a cooldown.
- Discipline: Penance Mana costs were adjusted so it stays more Mana-efficient than Heal and Greater Heal. Rank 1 costs 50% more.
- Discipline: Penance ranks 2 and 4 heal more.
October 1 build (updated October 2) (Oct 1, 2026)
- Devouring Plague can now critically strike.
- Fixed Shadow Word: Death always benefiting from Early Demise regardless of the target's health.
- Discipline: Inner Focus no longer adds its critical strike bonus to periodic effects.
- Shadow: Shadow Weaving can no longer fail to apply.
September 24 build (Sep 24, 2026)
- Renew can now land critical hits. Power Word: Shield can always overwrite an existing Power Word: Shield on a target without Weakened Soul.
- Gnome: Contingency Plan can land critical hits, and Confounding Flash has a cast visual with a more Holy look.
- Night Elf: Starshards now gets Twilight Focus's spell pushback resistance. Undead: Dark Sacrifice no longer breaks crowd control that breaks on damage and its tooltip shows the Spirit scaling.

Open or promised beta issues that mention Priest
- The Cooldown Manager is still a work in progress, and how complete it is varies by class. Banes and curses do not track after you drop and re-acquire a target, Healthstone, Arcane Blast, pet cooldowns and item enhancements (Windfury, rogue poisons) cannot be tracked, a Mana gem needs another spell cast to start tracking, and Priest tracks all spells by default.
What we don't know yet
- How Priest compares at level 60: the beta cap is 30 and the 31-point talents cannot be tested yet.
- Final abilities and talents, which Blizzard says may change during the beta.
