Gear, loot, transmog and mounts
Forever keeps Classic's stats and pace but reworks several of them, rewrites dungeon and quest rewards, and makes transmog optional. This page collects what Blizzard has said, and says plainly that nothing is known yet about best-in-slot gear.

Stats and itemization
Combat keeps Classic's feel and pace: Blizzard says an ordinary solo creature should take about 10 to 15 seconds to kill. Itemization has the same goal, keeping Classic's gameplay while "unsolving" the path through it.
- Combined stats: spell, melee and ranged hit chance are one stat, and so are crit chances. That helps hybrids such as Retribution Paladins and Enhancement Shaman, and makes taunts, poisons and traps more reliable for Warriors, Rogues and Hunters.
- Weapon skill still works, but items carry less of it so they are not always the obvious best pick.
- Bonus healing now gives about one third as much bonus damage, which helps healers quest.
- New stats reduce the chance your attacks are parried or dodged, and spellcaster weapons now carry spell damage and healing, so casters get leveling weapon upgrades like Warriors, Rogues and Hunters.
- Trinkets lean toward situational effects, such as bonuses tied to woodlands, mountains or deserts, or to creature types. Blizzard cites the Worgenbane Talisman as an example.

Dungeon, quest and world loot
- Dungeon drops: every dungeon drop was re-examined, memorable items kept, dull ones adjusted, and hundreds of new drops added. Unique dungeon boss items are blue quality and set bonuses were improved.
- Quest rewards were updated or expanded to cover more classes and roles. Examples Blizzard gave: Mor'ladim's quest in Duskwood still offers a two-handed sword but now also grants the Ladimore Heirloom Ring for casters, and Hemet Nesingwary's quests in Stranglethorn add options such as the Master Hunter's Spellsword.
- World drops and rares: world-drop epics were improved and hundreds of new rare-creature drops added.
- Camp object blueprints drop from dungeon bosses. See the table.
- PvP gear is bought with Honor in a blue set, then upgraded to an epic set. PvP gear path.

Transmog
- Opt in or out: you configure outfits at a transmogrifier in certain cities, or disable the system entirely. Opting out means you see other players as they actually are, in their equipped gear. Choosing Classic Mode at first launch turns transmog off automatically.
- Appearances are collected even when it is off, so you can switch it on later.
- Group loot: when a bind-on-pickup Uncommon or Rare drops in a dungeon, its appearance goes to every eligible looter when it is looted. For epic raid drops, only the player the item binds to gets the appearance. Poor and Common items grant theirs as soon as they are looted.
- Rules: plate transmogs to plate and cloth to cloth. Low-level characters cannot use high-level appearances until level 60. Cosmetic-only items are the exception and will be rare.
- Hiding slots: you can still hide your own helm or cloak without enabling the whole system, and you still see other players' hidden helm and cloak settings.

Mounts
- Forever uses the Burning Crusade approach: the up-front mount cost moves into the riding skill, and you receive a mount when you learn it.
- There are no flying mounts.
- Other mounts: a mount is a PvP rank 11 reward, the Reins of the Spectral Bear is a Legacy reward, and the Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount comes with the Skyborne upgrade packs (you still need the riding skill to use it).

Beta item changes
- September 24: a few guns and bows were not using ammunition correctly (fixed); some quest rewards were set to the right item level; Wizard Oils returned to Classic Era values (8, 16 and 24 spell power); wands no longer gain damage from spell damage.
- October 1: selling a bind-on-equip item whose appearance you have not collected to a vendor now makes it soulbound (it used to become account-bound). Crafted common and uncommon wands sell for 1 copper. Savory Whimsyfin Delight uses an orc version of the Ninja and Pirate outfits.
- October 1, PvP: Honor costs for PvP gear and upgrade tokens rose by about half.

What we don't know yet
- Best-in-slot gear. CGN will not use that phrase without a validated item pool: Classic's best items may not be best in Forever.
- Loot tables for the nine new dungeons and the two new raids, and the tier set structure.
- The legendary reward Blizzard has teased for early raid content.
- Riding skill levels and costs, and faction discounts.
