Side missions · 17 · checked Oct 7, 2026

All side missions

Seven in Act 2, three in Act 3 and seven in Act 4. Where each starts, what unlocks it and what to finish before you move on.

17 side missions

Secondary objectives are the optional tasks in the open chapters: defend a shelter, escort civilians, rescue a squad. You have to accept each one when it offers. They give mods or slots, and finishing all of them on any difficulty unlocks Side Piece (15 Gamerscore).

  • Counts by act: Act 2: 7 · Act 3: 3 · Act 4: 7. Acts 1 and 5 have none. The Journal tracks them by act only.
  • Timing: several only appear after a story objective moves on, so an empty doorway is not a miss. Each entry says when it becomes available and what to do before leaving the area.
  • Finish properly: wait for the completion notice or closing dialogue before you walk away. Killing the biggest group is not always the end.
  • Rewards: official posts only say “often a weapon mod”. Named rewards here were seen in single recorded runs.

If Side Piece does not unlock

Compare the Journal’s act counts with 7 (Act 2), 3 (Act 3) and 7 (Act 4). If Act 2 is short, check Family Reunion, Lost in Translation and Lone Wolf first: all three depend on story progress. If Act 3 is short, go back to Last Foothold for the park and the hospital-side rooftop. If Act 4 is short, remember Death from Above only appears after you restore power at the power plant.
