Camp

Camp is where you stock up, donate, rest and talk to the people you live with. This page covers the systems that run it, in plain terms, without saying what the gang goes through.

The basics

  • Three supply wagons hold ammunition, medicine and food. Their icons show stock: red is low, white is medium, gold is high. You restock them from the camp ledger.
  • Morale matters a little. A well-fed, content camp gives supplies and bonuses, and the gang notices when it is not.
  • Camp rules. Do not bring dead or hogtied people or enemies into camp. Break the rule and you lose honor, and cannot enter until you leave the body behind or help the guards deal with whoever followed you.
  • Do not stay away too long. More than three days away costs you honor when you return, even if someone is sent to fetch you.
  • The cast changes. People come and go, and the time of day changes who is around. Talking to people and following their quests shows where someone is.

Donating

You can give to camp in three ways.

  • Provisions. Give carcasses, meat or fish to Pearson for the camp stew. Whole carcasses and fish of good or perfect quality raise your honor, and higher-quality meat makes a better stew.
  • Crafting. Perfect (three-star) pelts, carcasses and antlers can be stored with Pearson for satchel upgrades and camp decorations. Imperfect ones go for funds or provisions only.
  • Funds. Put cash and valuables in the donation box next to Dutch's lodging. Donations of $20 or more raise your honor, and the money buys upgrades.

Chores

Chores run from morning to late afternoon and show as black dots on the minimap: carrying hay to the horses, carrying maize and water to Pearson, and chopping firewood. Each one gives a little honor and 5 Dead Eye XP. They are not available for the whole story.

The camp ledger

The ledger sits beside the donation box. You unlock it by collecting a debt from the first money-lending missions and putting it in the donation box. Its pages cover restocking the wagons, lodging upgrades and other upgrades, including leather working tools.

Ledger upgrades are time-limited They are only on sale during part of the story. The spoiler-marked chapter guide says exactly when. Special and Ultimate Edition owners get 20% off.

Companion activities and item requests

Gang members offer small errands in camp: hunting or fishing trips, home and coach robberies, and games. These appear at random, only at certain hours, and only while the camp stays where it is. Once the camp moves, an activity you missed is gone. None of them is needed for 100% completion.

Item requests work the same way. You overhear a request, find the item somewhere in the world, bring it to the person who asked (who is not always there), and get a small gift and a little honor. Some gifts are unique, like a scout jacket from Pearson. Many requests only exist in one chapter.

The full list is in the chapter guide because it is organized by chapter, and the chapters themselves are spoilers.

Crafting in camp

  • Campfires. Some items can only be crafted at a campfire, including tonics.
  • Grills. Some cooking needs a grill, which only the scout campfire at the gang camp and your own wilderness camps provide.
  • Coffee. To brew coffee at a wilderness camp you need a coffee percolator, sold in the general store catalog for $7.50.
