Rockstar's own pages name towns and cities but do not publish a service list, so this table is built from a community reference and checked on September 30, 2026. Community Lists are for the main game world. They can be incomplete, and shops in a few towns are decoration you cannot enter.

Settlement types

What each service is for
- General store. Provisions, tonics, bait and a catalogue for clothes and items. Armadillo's has a wardrobe in the back room.
- Gunsmith. Weapons, ammunition, customization and cleaning. Weapons guide
- Stable. Buy horses and tack, and board your horse. Horse guide
- Butcher. Sells and buys carcasses, pelts and meat.
- Fence. Buys stolen goods and valuables, sells a few items of its own and crafts trinkets and talismans. The wagon fence and horse fence pay for stolen wagons and horses. Fences are the only shops you can enter wearing a mask or bandana.
- Post office. Pay your bounty, send and receive mail, and buy train tickets.
- Hotel. Rest and take a bath. A bath counts toward 100% completion.
Small tips
- The trapper has a permanent shop in the Saint Denis market and a moving shop between several spots from New Hanover to West Elizabeth. Crafting guide
- The Lagras bait and tackle shop is the only place that sells the special lures used for legendary fish. Fishing guide
- Valentine is the first town with most of the basics. The regular fences are at Rhodes, Saint Denis and Van Horn, and Emerald Ranch's fence opens a little later.
- Blackwater is closed to you for most of the story, so do not plan around it early on.
