Getting started
Do I need to play Story Mode before Red Dead Online?
No. Red Dead Online is its own game mode with its own character and progress. It is included with Red Dead Redemption 2 and is also sold on its own.
How long does Red Dead Redemption 2 take to finish?
It is a long game with a lot of optional content. We do not publish a play-time figure because Rockstar has not stated one and it depends heavily on how much of the side content you do.
What should I learn first in Story Mode?
Cores, camp and your horse. Your three cores drain slowly and are refilled by food, tonics and sleep. Camp gives you supplies and honor, and bonding with one horse pays off for the whole game.
Spoilers
Is this site safe to read if I am new to the game?
Yes, except where a page says otherwise. Only the chapter guide contains story spoilers, and it is folded closed. Page titles, descriptions, search results and previews never reveal story events.
Where are the spoilers kept?
In the chapter guide, behind a warning on the page and a second warning on each folded chapter. A few safe pages link to it when a detail needs a chapter reference.
Story Mode
What does 100% completion require?
A specific list the game tracks under Progress, Total Completion: 107 story missions, any 10 stranger strands, any 5 bounty hunter missions, 25 random encounters, 6 gang hideouts, a set of compendium targets, level 10 cores, horse bonding level 4, all 90 challenges and more. It is not everything in the game.
Can I miss things I need for 100%?
Almost nothing on the 100% list is missable on its own. Companion activities, gang item requests and some mission strands end with each chapter, but none of those is required. The chapter guide lists what ends when.
How many legendary animals are there?
Sixteen in Story Mode, each once per save, and you only need to kill any five for 100%. Red Dead Online has its own, separate set.
What is the best horse?
The community ranks Arabians highest for Story Mode stats, but the stat bars are not everything. A horse you have bonded with will stay calmer in a fight, and a war horse suits a rider who wants steadiness over speed.
Does honor matter?
It does a little. High honor gives store discounts, low honor gives better loot from the dead, and honor shapes some scenes and the story's final stretch. You do not need to plan around it.
Red Dead Online
What is the current Red Dead Online event?
Chaos Engulfs the Frontier as Halloween Approaches, running through November 2, 2026. Rockstar posts a new event each month, and this site says so on the event page when the dates pass.
Which role should I start with?
There is no wrong answer, but the roles connect: Moonshiner needs a Trader sale or Trader Rank 5 first. Collector is the simplest to try, and Bounty Hunter starts in Rhodes.
Is Red Dead Online still being updated?
Rockstar still posts a Red Dead Online event every month in 2026. Those posts are bonus events, discounts and returning clothing rather than expansions, as far as we can tell from the posts themselves.
Buying and PC
How much does it cost?
On the Rockstar Store on October 1, 2026: $59.99 for Story Mode with Red Dead Online, $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition, and $19.99 for Red Dead Online alone. Prices change, so check the store.
What are the PC requirements?
Rockstar's current minimum is Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-6300, 8 GB of memory, an Nvidia GTX 770 or AMD R9 280, and 150 GB of storage. See the PC guide for the recommended specs.
The game crashes at launch with ERR_GFX_STATE. What do I do?
Rockstar Support suggests updating your graphics drivers, switching the graphics API from Vulkan to DirectX 12 in the advanced graphics settings, and disabling fullscreen optimization for the game's executable.
This site
Where do your facts come from?
Rockstar's own pages come first. When Rockstar does not document a mechanic, we check a long-running community reference and label the fact as Community. Each page lists its source labels and the date it was checked.
Is this site official?
No. Crogin Gaming Network is an unofficial fan site. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.
