The premise

Rockstar's own summary is short. It is the end of the Wild West era. After a failed robbery in the town of Blackwater, the gang is forced to flee with federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on its heels. As deepening divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must choose between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang that raised him. Official

You play Arthur Morgan, the gang's lead enforcer and the right hand of its leader, Dutch van der Linde. Most of the game is lived in camp, on the road and in the towns around it: hunting, fishing, robbing, helping strangers, and taking on missions for the people you live with.

How the campaign is built

  • Six chapters and a two-part epilogue. Each chapter moves the gang to a new camp in a new part of the map. A chapter ends when the story moves on, and a few camp activities and mission strands end with it. Community
  • Roughly a hundred story missions. The 100% checklist counts 107 story missions as required. Some are optional branches, and the order you play them in can vary. Community
  • Plenty that is not story. Stranger missions, bounty hunter missions, random encounters, gang hideouts, treasure hunts, collections and camp activities fill the space between missions.
  • Honor shapes scenes. Arthur's honor changes some dialogue, some small moments and the story's final stretch. You do not need to plan for it: play the way that feels right. Honor and law

How this site handles spoilers

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a story game, and an old release date is not a reason to spoil it. We use three rules.

  1. Safe by default. The home page, start page, world, towns, horses, hunting, weapons, systems and Red Dead Online pages stay away from story events. The one place a safe page touches the story, it says so and folds the detail closed.
  2. Marked and folded. The chapter guide carries a spoiler warning on the page and a second warning on each folded chapter. Nothing in it is visible until you open it.
  3. Nothing in previews. Page titles, descriptions, social previews, structured data and search results never include plot outcomes. Search marks spoiler pages with a Spoilers tag and does not show their section headings.

Where to go next

  • The gang: who is who, and who asks you for what.
  • Camp: the mechanics that run your day-to-day life.
  • Chapter guide: spoilers, folded closed, for when you are stuck or planning.
  • 100% completion: the checklist, kept spoiler-light.
